Description:
Ultrasonic Converters and Ultrasonic Transducers are one in the
same. There is one Ultrasonic OEM, Dukane Corporation, that uses
the term Transducer. All of the other ultrasonic OEM manufactures
such as Branson, Sonics and Materials, Rinco, Telesonics and
Herrmann refer to these as Converters or Konverters.
Converters or Transducers all do the same thing…convert electrical
energy to mechanical movement…so we have our electrical charge
being introduced across the surface of the ceramics at the desired
frequency which in turn gives us a movement or vibration at the
working end on the converter.
The converter is threaded onto a booster, which increases,
decreases or just transfers the amount of movement from the face of
the converter to the horn or Sonotrode as we call it.
ultrasonic transducer is an energy conversion device whose function
is to convert the input electrical power into mechanical power (ie,
ultrasonic waves) and then pass it out, while it consumes a small
amount of power (less than 10%). Therefore, the most important
consideration for using ultrasonic transducers is the matching with
the input and output terminals, followed by the mechanical mounting
and mating dimensions. There are many types of ultrasonic machinery

Resonant frequency:
The frequency refers to a frequency measured by a transmission line
method using a frequency generator, a millivoltmeter, or the like,
or a frequency measured by an impedance analyzer or the like.
Generally known as the small signal frequency. Opposite to it is
the upper frequency, which is the actual operating frequency
measured by the customer when the transducer is connected to the
drive power supply via a cable and is unloaded or loaded. Because
the customer's matching circuit is different, the same transducer
with different driving power supply shows different frequencies,
such frequency can not be used as the order basis.
The reasons why the transducer is often bad are:
1. The power loss of the transducer itself is large, and the
transducer needs to consume a certain amount of power when
vibrating. This loss power directly reflects the quality and
process of the transducer, and the power consumed by the transducer
itself is as small as possible. The greater the loss power, the
greater the damage. In severe cases, the piezoelectric ceramic is
directly broken. The amount of power loss directly reflects the
process and quality of the transducer.
2. The aluminum alloy horn of the transducer is fatigue fracture
(affected by the material life), and the amplitude is large.
3. The piezoelectric ceramic piece of the transducer is broken (by
the piezoelectric ceramic itself, the mechanical strength causes
loss and heat, overload and high power output, loose)
